BMW has just recorded its highest-ever first-half sales in India, delivering 9,075 cars between January and June 2026, a 17 percent jump over the same period last year. EVs Now Make Up 1 in Every 4 BMWs Sold
Out of the 9,075 units delivered, 2,359 were electric vehicles, a growth of 78 percent year on year. That means roughly one in every four BMWs sold in India during H1 2026 was an EV. BMW Group India president and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar credited this to the brand's hold on the electric mobility space, calling it a key reason BMW has become the top choice in the luxury EV segment in the country.
Long-Wheelbase Models Are a Bigger Draw Than Ever
Long-wheelbase, or LWB, models accounted for a striking 52 percent share of BMW's total H1 sales, with 4,428 units delivered, up 24 percent over the year-ago period. These cars were originally built for the Chinese market but have found strong demand in India among buyers who value the extra rear-seat space, particularly those who are chauffeur driven. The LWB versions of the iX1 e-SUV, 5 Series, and 3 Series are currently on sale here, and even the upcoming next-generation X5 is set to arrive in LWB form.
A big part of the appeal is that these cars are locally assembled in India, which keeps duties lower than fully imported models. The iX1 EV, for instance, is the most affordable LWB model in the line-up, priced at Rs 51.40 lakh ex-showroom.
Mini Also Had a Strong Run
BMW-owned Mini sold 504 cars in H1 2026, growing over 70 percent year on year. The Countryman SUV led the way, with the newly launched C trim seeing strong demand, followed by the Cooper Convertible and its hatchback sibling. Several special editions, including the Cooper S Victory and GP Inspired, sold out completely.
More BMWs on the Way
BMW had earlier confirmed plans for six all-new cars, four facelifts, and 17 product enhancements through 2026. It has already launched the X3 30 xDrive, M2 CS, M440i Convertible, and X6 M60i so far this year, with more launches expected as the brand also expands its retail footprint to 10 new cities.
