Hyundai Motor India has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service, or BaaS, ownership model for the Hyundai CRETA Electric, and it changes the entry point into the country's most popular electric SUV nameplate significantly. Buyers can now own a CRETA Electric at a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh ex-showroom, with battery EMI starting at just Rs 3.9 per kilometre. Alongside this, Hyundai has also rolled out a few thoughtful updates to the SUV itself.

A Lower Upfront Cost, Finally
The biggest news here is BaaS itself. By separating the battery cost from the vehicle price, Hyundai has brought down one of the biggest barriers to EV ownership, the high upfront acquisition cost. Instead of paying for the battery outright, customers can opt into a rental plan with EMIs starting at Rs 3.9 per kilometre, making the switch to electric far more accessible. Small but Meaningful Updates
Along with BaaS, the CRETA Electric now gets an integrated side foot step, making entry and exit easier while giving the SUV a slightly more premium stance. Based on customer demand, the Home Charger variants will also come with a 7.4kW wall box charger as standard, making home charging simpler for everyday use.
What the CRETA Electric Still Offers
The core of the CRETA Electric remains just as strong. It comes with up to 510km of ARAI certified driving range, a choice between 51.4kWh long range and 42kWh short range battery options, and DC fast charging that takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 39 minutes. Other standout features include Vehicle-to-Load technology, Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS, a Single Pedal Drive mode, a digital key that works from your smartphone or smartwatch, and a battery warranty of 8 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first. The Long Range variant also manages a 0 to 100kmph sprint in 7.9 seconds.
The CRETA Electric has already proven itself on the road too, having set a national record for the maximum distance covered by an electric car in 24 hours at 1,326.5km, along with the fastest 1,000km run, completed in 18 hours and 31 minutes.
A Growing EV Ecosystem to Support It
Hyundai is also backing the CRETA Electric with real charging infrastructure, having already set up 183 locations with 214 DC chargers and 399 charging points across India, as part of a plan to install close to 600 fast public charging stations over the next four years. The myHyundai app's EV Charge feature also lets owners locate more than 28,000 charging points nationwide.
